Digital Marketing & Sales Executive – Help Us Shape the Future of Dunedin Tourism
As of this year at Dunedin Railways, Home of the Taieri Gorge, we’ve entered a bold new chapter as a modern, high-performance tourism company with big ambitions. With a refreshed strategy and new leadership, we’re rebuilding from the ground up. Our aim is to become one of New Zealand’s leading visitor experiences — and we’re searching for the right people to help us get there.
We’re looking for an energetic, creative and driven Digital Marketing & Sales Executive to join our dynamic team. This role is perfect for someone ready to roll up their sleeves, bring ideas to the table, and help drive real results through marketing, content, storytelling and relationships.
This isn’t a role where you’ll be maintaining the status quo — we’re moving fast, evolving rapidly, and setting a new standard for Dunedin Railways and our iconic train adventures. If you’re ambitious, curious and love the idea of helping shape a brand from the inside out — we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing, Content & Storytelling

- Create compelling visuals and video content using design and video editing tools.
- Capture local culture & stories — the stories behind our brand, crew, customers and community.
- Manage day-to-day posting, scheduling, engagement and community management across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.
- Manage our presence across third-party platforms and OTAs such as Tripadvisor, Viator, Klook— ensuring listings, imagery, and messaging are always current and optimised.
Digital Advertising & Campaigns
- Create and manage digital advertising campaigns using Meta and Google Ads.
- Build and test campaign creatives, ad copy, audiences and budgets.
- Monitor campaign performance and deliver insights with actionable recommendations.
- Work closely with the Marketing Manager to brainstorm and deliver high-impact campaigns.
Website & Design
- Manage basic CMS updates across our website (images, blog, product pages, etc).
- Design and produce digital and print marketing materials (posters, signage, brochures, web banners).
- Assist with optimising the online customer journey to improve ticketing performance.
Sales Support & Trade Marketing
- Proactively reach out to local tourism operators to promote and onboard them to our sales channels.
- Provide up-to-date marketing materials, campaign updates and support.
- Assist with inbound sales support via phone and email as needed.
Campaign Reporting & Industry Engagement
- Track and report on organic, paid and sales performance using tools like Meta, Google Analytics, Fareharbor and CRM.
- Stay across emerging trends, platform updates and best practices in the digital marketing and tourism industries.
- Support marketing activations and special event delivery on the ground where required.
You’ll Thrive in This Role If You Are:
- A strong writer with a visual eye and creative flair.
- Someone who enjoys hands-on execution.
- Ambitious and proactive — you take initiative and love trying new things.
- A confident communicator who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Energised by the idea of being part of a business transformation story.
What You Bring
- 1–3 years of experience in digital marketing, advertising, or content creation.
- Proficiency with Meta Ads, Google Ads, Canva, Mailchimp, and CMS tools (CloudCannon, Wix or similar).
- Solid understanding of social media platforms and how to drive engagement.
- Ability to manage projects and deadlines
- Willingness to pitch in for major seasonal events and campaigns — including working occasional weekends to support our special event trains like Christmas, Easter, and Stargazer.
- Comfortable interacting with customers and being a hands-on, friendly team player during activations, events, and peak periods.
- SEO or eCommerce experience is a bonus but not essential.
- Experience with customer service is a plus.
