Christchurch to The Deep South

Day 1 Christchurch to Dunedin
Departing from Addington Station, enjoy the ambiance and the scenery as we travel south in style aboard our comfortable train. Arrive in Dunedin early evening at New Zealand's most photographed building, the historic Dunedin Railway Station, and transfer to hotel by coach. Enjoy dinner at the hotel and get to know your travelling companions.
Day 2 Dunedin with optional tours as below
After your buffet breakfast, the day is yours to spend as you choose, or join us for our optional excursions:
MORNING OPTION 1: A city tour, the world famous Albatross Colony at Taiaroa Head, and the stately and beautiful Larnach Castle. Lunch is included at the Castle. This option costs $149pp
AFTERNOON OPTION 2: Visit to Speight's Brewery for a heritage brewery tour and two-course dinner. This option costs $69pp
OR enjoy a free day and evening to yourself, exploring Dunedin.

Day 3 Dunedin to Taieri Gorge / Pukerangi return
Following a buffet breakfast, take time to enjoy some of what the great little historic city of Dunedin has to offer before returning to Dunedin Railway Station and boarding the magnificent Taieri Gorge train to Pukerangi. Be amazed at the spectacular scenery and lunch on board this four hour return train trip as it travels up the picturesque Taieri Gorge. Enjoy your evening at your leisure.
NOTE: For passengers on the 5th of May, there is the option to join the 'Walk the Gorge' annual event and barbeque

Day 4 Dunedin to Invercargill
Following breakfast we’ll transfer you to the station before we begin our journey further south to Invercargill. We’ll have a packed lunch along the way and arrive in Invercargill in the afternoon. Tonight we'll visit the impressive Richardson’s Transport Museum for a visit to the museum and a buffet dinner.

Day 5 Invercargill to Stewart Island return
After an early buffet breakfast, we will travel by coach to Bluff, the Southern-most point of mainland New Zealand. From here we will travel by catamaran to the beautiful and wild Stewart Island. Enjoy a Village and Bays Coach Tour and a scenic nature cruise. Our time on Stewart Island will finish with the return catamaran trip back to Bluff before returning to Invercargill to enjoy an evening at leisure.

Day 6 Invercargill to Oamaru
Following breakfast, farewell the deep south as we return north journeying towards Oamaru. Lunch will be provided enroute. This evening we'll visit the the Little Blue Penguin colony where you'll be entertained by their march up the beach as they return from a day’s fishing at sea, followed by the last dinner with your fellow travellers at your hotel in Oamaru.

Day 7 Oamaru to Christchurch
Enjoy breakfast on our last day together. We’ll depart from the hotel to board the Silverfern for the final leg of our journey north. We’ll arrive into Christchurch early afternoon.

Across the road from your accommodation is Speights Brewery. On your second evening in Dunedin take a Tour of the brewery followed by a two course dinner:

To ensure your place on this excursion a deposit of $500 per person is required at the time of booking, with the balance due one month prior to travel.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Dunedin Railways and its operation staff expressly reserve the right to amend, vary or cancel any part of the Rail Tour Itinerary whatsoever and shall not be liable in respect to any delay, loss, damage, sickness, additional expense or injury however caused, or damage to or loss of property or baggage. Dunedin Railways will not be responsible for any alteration or delays of the external suppliers of services as detailed in the itinerary. A non-refundable deposit of $500 per person is required at the time of booking to secure your place. Full payment is due one month prior to departure and is non-refundable. Travel insurance is recommended. Should we not reach minimum numbers, Dunedin Railways reserves the right the cancel the Rail Tour. In this instance all deposits would be refunded.
