The Taieri Gorge train departs 9.30am on the 25th of April from Dunedin Railway Station. Included is the Taieri Gorge train trip with a guided walk around the famous Sutton salt lake and time for lunch in Middlemarch (lunch not included in fare)
You will be on the morning Taieri Gorge Train up to Pukerangi arriving at approximately 11.30am You'll be met by a school coach (courtesy of Otago Road Services) that will take you on the approximately 20 minute trip up to Sutton Salt Lake. The Guided Walk around the lake (or salt flat depending on how wet it has been) will take about an hour. People are amazed by the almost moon like landscape and the interesting plant life. After your walk you will be transported to Middlemarch where you will have about three hours at leisure. This is more than enough time to explore the small town, have a leisurely lunch at the pub or a cafe and explore the interesting museum. At 4pm the coach will leave for your 20 minute trip back to Pukerangi to meet up with the Afternoon Train service and your spectacular trip down the gorge to Dunedin.
Remember to take a range of clothing for all weathers and good shoes for the walk.
