The Waitati Seasider is a 90 minute train trip that regularly departs over the summer months and travels along the pretty cliff tops over looking the Pacific Ocean and Blueskin Bay. At just 90 minutes for the return trip this are perfect for people who have limited time in the city. You will experience excellent views as you travel along Otago Harbour to climb the cliff tops to emerge from the bush and onto the picture perfect scenery of the Pacific Ocean and the incredible view over the dazzling Blueskin Bay. This section of railway is considered to be a highlight of the rail network in New Zealand.
The Seasider makes these trips on selected days up to three times a day. Please refer to the timetable for our schedule. These trips have been operating since 2012 and have proven to be a popular option for both Dunedin residents and visitors to Dunedin. If you are visiting Dunedin with a cruise ship then this is the perfect way to see 'real New Zealand' and don't worry, you have plenty of time so you wont miss the boat.
For any of these trips you can ask to be dropped off in Port Chalmers on the way back.

The Dunedin Silver Fern is occasionally used for special trips from Dunedin to Invercargill, Oamaru or Christchurch. Please refer to the special events page here to see the next scheduled departure. It's also an ideal train for charters for up to 94 people.
